Instructional Design

I became interested in instructional design while completing my Master's in Library Science and the University of Maryland in 2001.  Originally planning to be a school library media specialist, I took a course in instructional design, and was hooked.  Today, I use principles of learning theory and instruction design when creating lessons for information literacy classes at the community college library where I work. I recently took a refresher workshop through the Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science entitled, "Instructional Design: Creating Effective Materials for Online Learning." At its core, whether a class takes place online or in person, good instruction starts with good design, and an understanding of how people learn.
